Library encourages readers, gamers to ‘Level Up’ with summer reading program

Lobby in the Central Library Photo courtesy of San Diego Community Library As summer kicks into high gear the San Diego Inhabitants Library will host an event Saturday to help book readers and championship lovers blend their hobbies for the newly revamped Summer Reading Scheme The Summer Reading Scheme is the perfect place for children and adults to engage in literary and physical fun to keep their brains sharp during the summer months explained Library Director Misty Jones Level Up at Your Library spans genres from entertainment physical activity imagination and more There is something for everyone to enjoy that is both entertaining and educational On Saturday the p m Summer Reading Campaign Kick-Off Carnival event hosted at the Central Library s courtyard Park Blvd will feature carnival games storytime by Jimmy Sherfy support tables balloon animals and magic by Illusions by Allen Prizes for completed books are available while supplies last and include museum passes and free books City libraries will also host population events throughout the summer including video event tournaments board tournament nights and more Two Competition Jam camps will allow students to discover the world of video tournament design The Summer Reading Operation offers age categories for children ages - and - youth ages - and adults ages and up Reading and events can be tracked online or on paper logs which can be printed at home or picked up at any of the SDPL locations Library leaders declared last year nearly people participated in the plan and collectively read more than books Through Aug SDPL encourages people to participate in the scheme by registering reading gaming and earning points that can be redeemed for prizes beginning June To register online view a list of pursuits and books or to find a Summer Reading Activity event near you visit sandiego gov summerreading City News Utility
