Motorcyclist, 31, killed in Lakeside hit-and-run; driver fled on foot after crash

A close-up of the suspect wagon involved in Sunday s fatal collision Image from OnScene TV video A fatal hit-and-run collision in eastern San Diego County claimed the life of a -year-old motorcyclist over the weekend officers certified Monday The man was heading north on state Way in Lakeside on a Harley-Davidson when the driver of an oncoming Mitsubishi SUV made a left turn against a red light at Willow Road directly in the rider s path according to the California Highway Patrol The resulting crash sent the motorcyclist tumbling onto the roadway mortally injured CHP public-affairs Officer Jasmine Lopez revealed The man whose name was withheld pending family notification died at the scene Following the collision the SUV veered off the street and crashed into a traffic light Lopez disclosed The driver then got out of the truck and fled on foot This is an ongoing analysis Lopez disclosed Monday It is unknown at this time if drugs and or alcohol were a factor in the crash City News Provision contributed to this article
